Strings of Verinoir

Imperial Palace, Keharsla, sometime in the past. Footsteps echo through the vast halls of the Empire’s prime fortress as patrols make their rounds across the gardens and corridors. The walls of white marble set a contrast against the horror that looms over the land’s rule and the people within.

An invasion is happening, and nobody even knows it’s here…

Strings of Verinoir is a horror-themed visual novel of family bonds and the lengths we are willing to go to for love.

You are Sev, the child of the rulers of a powerful empire in a world where some humans are capable of manipulating matter or energy through their strength and mind. You and Taor, your adventurous and oftentimes reckless twin brother, live in lockdown inside your bedroom in the Imperial Palace, heavily guarded for reasons only known by the Emperors. Backed by the sister-like figure of Hana, a young patrol who quickly rose up the ranks of the Imperial Guard, you sneak out every other night through a secret passage for a relief from the ever-constant pressure as heirs to the throne and your curiosity for the world that is out there.

But a dark figure with an unknown purpose stalks the siblings during playtime, made of a mysterious dark blood referred only in ancient texts as Verinoir. Where do you believe this entity’s interests are, and what role do you play in this?

Characters

Sev (they/them)

Loyal, determined, and a bookworm, Sev believes that their parents are rightfully overprotective for the good of the Empire. They are often the voice of reason in their relationship with their sibling and believe that the safe route traced for them in their development as heirs is the way to follow. Nevertheless, Sev is willing to go to the end of the world for their brother, even if their love can put them in great risk.

 

Taor (he/him)

Passionate, energetic, and adventurous. Taor has a difficult time dealing with the lockdown that his parents have mandated over him and his sibling. His incessant need for thrills are the main driving force behind their escapades into the palace gardens, and his knack for the dark and mysterious sets him as a preeminent target for the forces from another world.

 

Hana (she/her) 

Leader, wise, and affectionate. Hana is a sister-like figure to the siblings and a member of the Imperial Guard, assigned to the personal care of the Emperors’ kids after she developed a close relationship with them. Not much is known about how she came to the palace, but she acts as a role model to both of them and is the only one who can understand their frustration in isolation. 

And a mysterious being from unknown origin…

Strings of Verinoir is in development by Daemon Interactive, a team from Mexico assembled to bring life to this story as part of the Spooktober Jam 2021.
